High School Volunteer Program

The purpose of this program is to establish a connection between the Long Beach Unified School District high school students and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra by providing education and community service opportunities to the students.

Students can participation in three areas:

Overture

Student volunteers take on more responsibilities and leadership roles. They arrive at the Terrace Theater at 4:00 pm on each of the Classics concerts to set up the lobby and help patrons to their seats. During the week of the Holiday Celebration concerts, members of Overture assist backstage.


Symphony POPS! Production Assistant

Student volunteers arrive at the Long Beach Arena at 8:30 am on each of the Symphony POPS! concert dates listed below. Under the supervision of the LBSO education manager, the volunteers assist in the set-up of the audience seating area, lobby and the artist dressing rooms. Students may dress comfortably.

Concert Ushers (Classics & Holiday Celebration Concerts)

Volunteers arrive at the lobby of the Terrace Theater at 6 pm on each of the Classics concert dates listed below. The arrival times for the Holiday Celebration concerts are 5:00 pm on December 8th and 12:30 pm on December 9th. Students are asked to dress in nice concert attire, as they will be functioning as ushers, welcoming patrons, and distributing program books.

LBUSD students receive service credit for volunteering.

As we are always looking for help at concerts, students are welcome to show up to volunteer on the night of a concert without calling in advance. For more information, please contact the Symphony office at
